Product Description
The XFT-2001D G3 Foot Drop System is a wearable rehabilitation device designed to help people who experience “foot drop” — that is, difficulty lifting the front part of the foot when walking. It’s produced by XFT Medical and represents the third-generation (G3) version of their Foot Drop line.
In simple terms, the system uses built-in sensors (MEMS sensors and smart algorithms) to detect when the user is beginning a walking motion, then delivers a targeted electrical pulse (via functional electrical stimulation, FES) to specific leg muscles and nerves (such as the common peroneal nerve and the tibialis anterior muscle) so the foot lifts at the correct time. It is designed to be comfortable and wearable: a cuff strap is placed around the leg below the knee, electrodes attach to the muscles, and a stimulation unit plus remote control manage the therapy mode. This allows the user to walk more naturally, rather than relying purely on braces or passive supports.
How XFT-2001D G3 Foot Drop System Works for Recovery?
- Detect & trigger: As the user begins to lift the leg in walking, the built-in sensors detect the movement (swing angle and pace) and trigger the electrical stimulation at the right moment.
- Stimulate muscle contraction: The stimulation is delivered to the nerve/muscle group (common peroneal nerve, tibialis anterior), causing the foot to lift (dorsiflex) and/or rotate slightly outward (eversion).
- Re-train movement patterns: By repeating the timed stimulation during gait over many sessions, the device helps send consistent sensory-motor signals back to the brain and spinal cord — promoting neuroplasticity (the nervous system rewiring itself) so voluntary control improves.
- Support muscle health: The Training Mode helps when walking isn’t yet possible — by keeping the muscles active, reducing atrophy, and maintaining joint range of motion. This prepares the leg for better walking later.
